Q & A With Missy Norman of Missy Norman Photography

Q. Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

This is one of the biggest questions ever. I have so many favorites. If I had to give an actual list that would be easier. However one of my favorite works made me fall in love with light painting. I ended up teaching myself how to light paint and for the most part mastered it. This image is music escaping.

Godzilla Light Painting.

Here is how this one goes. I have this kiddo that is super OBSESSED with Godzilla! Piratically everything that comes out of his mouth is about Godzilla, if he is not talking about the characters, he is making the noises, if he is not making the noises, he is watching YouTube videos of them. To the people that have Godzilla videos up, you can thank my kiddo for your millions of views. So with him in mind, I thought  I would create some art for him and his room… Who wouldn’t love art done by their mom, especially if the art is SO FREAKING COOL?!?!?! So these are for my amazing autistic kiddo Mr. M

Light Painting Time Again!

It has been a while since I have done any light painting. I truly miss it. With this light painting, I did Halloween props that I got on sale. I also used a texture with the background. I think that the image came out beautifully. _DSC0103.jpg

Selfie of the New Year.

This year is starting off with a bang. Once again I find myself sitting here and writing 2015 on every single thing. Christmas clean up has happened. A birthday has happened. (Not mine) School started back from Christmas break. Personally break was all too short. I absolutely love having my kiddo home. A new beginning in my chapter began on Christmas. I am learning how to sew. Actually I am not bad at it, I have no idea how I went my existence without a sewing machine. A new year marks new hair, I updated my hair color and I totally love it. I moved my studio, it is smaller, but that is okay. The things we do for our kids. I am looking forward to an amazing new year. I am excited to see what is in store.

A New Shoot for ME.

Over Christmas I was doing a dear friends photography. It was of her two beautiful little girls. After the shoot I decided to do some maternity photos for my friend. She was due anytime. The shoot happened early, due to me rescheduling the shoot. Thankfully I did move the shoot up. The next day she went into labor. I would have not been able to do the girls Christmas shoot or maternity photos. I love her belly, it is such a perfect baby belly. I was honored to have shot these images for her and her last pregnancy.

Is she not totally beautiful!?!?!?!

Shooting for Christmas

I wills say Mr. M is developing a huge personality. It is truly amazing. So I forgot to send out Christmas cards this year. I then thought I need to hurry up and get a Christmas image, so I could make an online card for everyone. This was one of the most fun and hardest images to get and do. The famous child in front of the Christmas tree. It is becoming Iconic and I just had to try it for once. So I did, but I put two different kinds of work into it. I did the Christmas tree image, and at the same time I did the child sitting and reading a book with the light glowing on his face. It turned out beautiful. I made it magical.  With the book I made reindeer come out of it. It was rough and I think amazing for my first try. _DSC0108-Edit

Now putting this on here it looks noisy.

Christmas Spirit!

This holiday has been totally amazing. Mr. M is really into it, and having so much fun. He goes around singing his version of We Wish You A Merry Christmas.  In the light of Christmas Spirit, we have been decorating for around a month, and we finally put the finishing touches on everything.  I cannot wait till Christmas to see the joy on Mr. M’s face when he gets full Christmas happening. Closer to Christmas we well be playing  Christmas games, and watching Christmas movies.

Q & A With Missy Norman of Missy Norman Photography

Q. When you go in one of your travels, what all you take with you? Why?

Traveling, oh this is a good one. I have been dying to cover this question in a blog. When it comes to my bag, the things that are always in it would be my camera body, three lenses, two hoods, and two batteries. Depending on what I go to shoot would help me define the extras. Another thing that I do not leave with is my smartphone.

I have learned that in the winter to make sure I have gloves in my bag, in the summer a bottle of water and bug spray.

Q. Whose work has influenced you most?

People that have influenced me would be:

  1. Philippe Halsman
  2. Abeldro Morell
  3. Sue Bryce
  4. Steve Bronstein
  5. Meg Bittion

All of these photographers have strived for more and have achieved it, when it comes to their work it is so different from each other, but they have each mastered their craft. Different aspects of their work have influenced me in mine, down from ideas to post production.

Q. Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

I have learned that it is hard to choose a favorite image when it comes to my work. If I have them printed or shared or blogged, the images are my favorite. If I have to choose my absolute favorite comes down to a light painting with headphones and an iPod that I have done. In doing this image, I learned how to light paint, create art with light painting, and my undying passion for light painting. This work has opened a whole new world for me.
